Customized Power

The convergence of the telecom and
datacom industry has not come as far when
it comes to power solutions yet. Traditionally
the telecom industry has used 24 or 48 V
DC solutions with rather long battery backup
for high availability, while the datacom
industry has been using AC UPS with less
than an hour reserve time. However, more
and more companies are moving towards
a distributed power architecture, normally
48 V bus, enabling both the telecom and
the datacom equipment to operate from a
48 V battery back-up. There is also a move
towards 350 V DC systems as direct
replacements for AC UPSs.

Typical characteristics of
Communications Power Supplies:
- Environment and EMC requirements are tough
- 48V and 24 V predominant in telecom while AC UPSs are most common solution in datacom
Powerbox's experience:
- Converters and rectifiers for telecom, DC power systems, broadcasting applications, niche datacom applications
